Royal British Legion Reaffiliation 07/21/2010
Alnwick Detachment was officially reaffiliated to the Alnmouth Branch of the Royal British Legion on Monday night. The cadets regularly help the Legion with fundraising in the local area. The hour long presentation saw an exchange of certificates between Branch officials and Detachment Commander, SSI Ralph Brown. Our colleagues at 1801 (Alnwick) Squadron ATC were also reaffiliated. Cdt S/Sgt Michael Sargent of Alnwick Detachment was promoted to the rank of Cdt CSM this evening. Michael, W Company's senior cadet, has been with the ACF for five years. He recently completed his APC 4-Star , a leadership course and the Senior Cadets' Instructors' Cadre. The OC W Company, Major Mark Ewart, said: "It gives me great pleasure to promote S/Sgt Sargent to the rank of CSM, in recognition of the exemplary work he has done during his time as a cadet. This is the most satisfying presentation I have made during my time as Company Commander." Eighteen year old Michael will spend his remaining months in the ACF shadowing the adult CSM, SMI Peter Lawrence. Alnwick Enrolment Ceremony 04/02/2010
Thursday 25th March saw the basic training cadets be given their cap badge & Hackle, as they formally became members of the detachment. Ten new cadets have been enrolled into Alnwick, and seven into Broomhill. Unfortunately the parade clashed with one of the school ski trips, so four of the Alnwick cadets missed the night. They will be enrolled informally at the next parade night. County Cadet Commandant, Colonel David Smith, gave out the basic training pass awards, along with best recruit, best cadet and promotions. Congratulations to all the cadets for a very good night! Alnwick and Broomhill Ski Trip 02/28/2010
Alnwick and Broomhill Detachments have just returned from a successful week's ski trip in Samoens, France. Ten cadets from Alnwick and four from Broomhill along with Staff Sergeants Ralph Brown and Becky Matthewson attended the trip, raising funds at various events throughout the year. The trip was a great success, with a mix of cadets having some experience, to absolute beginners. By the end of the week all cadets were skiing from Samoens, right across the mountains to the villages of Morillon and Les Carroz and off-pisting along great runs such as the Marvel, the Dahu and the Sairon. Lt Lister and the Rothbury cadets head out on their trip to Samoens on March 6th, where they will also be looking to have a great time. Members of the ski party are pictured below (from L to R): L/Cpl Mark Newson, S/Sgt Michael Sargent, L/Cpl Will Young, L/Cpl Mark Robertson, L/Cpl Kevin Straughan, Cdt Lydia Donaldson, L/Cpl Joe Pendrich, L/Cpl Ed Inkster, L/Cpl Luke Wintrip, Cdt Kate Netherwood, L/Cpl Meg Straker, Cdt Emily Brunton, L/Cpl Ellie Tribe & L/Cpl Callum Turnbull. Cadets from Alnwick Detachment were out in force today to support the annual Alnwick Gardens Duck Race. The race, in support of the Grace House North East children's hospice, saw some 36,000 brightly coloured rubber ducks travelling down the Garden's Grand Cascade over a three hour period. SSI Ralph Brown, Detachment Commander and big kid at heart, couldn't resist taking a dip in the cascade too. More photos in the Detachment's Photo Gallery. Striding Out For Skiing 07/02/2009
