Amble Detachment - Badged to the Coldstream Guards
A message from the Detachment Commander SI Neil Watson
My name is SI Watson and joined the cadets as an inquisitive parent attending an open evening with my daughter. I have to admit that I have not looked back and thoroughly enjoy what I do and the cadets I have the privilege of working with now.
I have no prior background in the military and work in an office in Newcastle during the day. I have learnt a lot about cadets, myself and working with children in a very short period of time and use the skills learnt at the detachment in my everyday life.
In addition to this I am also the Duke of Edinburgh leader for the detachment and the vast majority of the cadets are now well on their way to completing their Bronze Award with one or two also now embarking on their silver award.
If all the media reports are to believed about the youth of today, the cadets appears to be an oasis in the struggle that is adolescence and provides a structured, secure and challenging environment away from the problems outside of the detachment.
Amble Detachment had the privilege of being the first ACF Detachment to be affiliated to the Coldstream Guards, thanks to one of its past Detachment Commanders who was a Guardsman in his day. We rebadged on the 22nd April 2000 in honour of Viscount Lord Ridley retiring as Lord Lieutenant of
Northumberland.
If anyone would like to come and join or even have a look around to see if this is something for the future, please come along to Amble Detachment on a Monday or Thursday night between 7 pm and 9 pm preferably at the beginning of the evening, so that you can hopefully stay and see what we have planned for the evening.
